FAIRS at Dayton Hamvention 2010
The Dayton Hamvention is the world's largest amateur radio gathering with over 20 thousand people attending each year. FAIRS has attended and operated a booth there since 1993. International items from foreign countries where FAIRS does goodwill work are sold at the booth to generate funds for the foundation. Big selling items this year included the hand-painted Ukrainian eggs, Matryoshka nesting dolls, and tee shirts.
FAIRS leaders David (KK4WW) and Gaynell (KK4WWW Larsen were accompanied by President of Floyd Amateur Radio Society (FARS) Tom King (W4VZH) and local operators Michael Herring (KE4RGY) John Hughlett (N4WRT) and Kay Gordon.
One of the highlights of the Hamvention was the DX Dinner, which is a gathering of "senior" hams from all around the world. Several operators were honored this year for making significant contributions to the Amateur Radio Service. FAIRS was honored for exceptional works by Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA). They donated the wonderful indoor exhibit booth and a gift of funds, also, so that the goodwill efforts might continue.
