On Saturday June 12th, 2010, Floyd Amateur Radio Society met at Floyd Professional Center in suite 9 of the Village Green--
FARS pres. Tom King W4VZH called the meeting to order at 0856 hours and passed the meeting to secretary Russ Abbey KG4MAV.
We have brand new QSL cards which describe FARS and the community where we are based in Floyd, Virginia. Dave Larsen KK4WW and Dee Wallace KG4VMI went over the content of the cards and the way they were designed (thanks Luis Garcia KJ4MHZ and Dee). They also designed the new special event certificate for Kids Day (as part of Floyd Town Jubilee June 19th) and other events.
Dave asked if and the members present agreed to pass the hat to help pay for the N4USA/FARS QSL card and postage. It was agreed to initiate this at the next meeting.
A certificate of thanks and appreciation was presented to Tom W4VZH and Russ KG4MAV for being an integral part of establishing the Society, and for securing our affiliation with ARRL. Tom has done a lot of work as the County Amateur Radio Officer with ARES and RACES. Also acknowledeged were David Larsen and his group for providing station location and equipment, Don Clemens was given thanks for his work on the wires and the making of spools to wind them up on; this idea has been a true saver for the wires.
Gaynell KK4WWW talked about her experience with the Boy Scouts in Texas on the air - she helped the children with requirements for merit badges. She said that it was a lot of fun working the scouts and looks forward to doing it again.
It was suggested by Luis and Tom that sign up sheets be used for determining shifts for Kids Day and Field Day (June 26th through 27th), the Secretary will get sign up sheets into the office after the meeting (and did in fact).
The meeting adjourned at 0937 hours.
