Floyd Amateur Radio Operators Are Mounting Up!

Members of Floyd Amateur Radio Society are really mounting up for the summer season of special events and community service -

We're ARRL affiliated, we're actively making improvements to our communications systems, we've got hats and badges, and we're readying for this year's Kid's Day (as part of Floyd Town Jubilee June 19th, 2010) and Field Day over June 25-27th weekend.

Check out FARS president Tom King W4VZH's truck antenna mount (see picture)!!

Last night, Floyd Town Council approved our application for temporary installation of wire antennae for both Kids Day and Field Day.  This is exciting for the Society, as we hope to gain visibility with our special event operations.

ARRL Kid's day is an opportunity to bring Amateur Radio into the lives of young people.  Our current licensed members will be of great help sharing this special method of communication and encouraging interest.  The kids have a blast using the radio to talk to people all over the world - at community station/club station, with call sign N4USA.  Russ KG4MAV plans to have the associated digital logs & programming up and going.

The next weekend is Field Day. It's a really fun activity, and you don't need to be licensed to operate.  Once again, we'll use N4USA to promote goodwill over the air waves.  FARS (Floyd Amateur Radio Society) has enough General and Extra operators in the Club to really have fun, and we'll be getting to know one another in the process.

First up, though, Saturday May 8th, is our clean up for "Adopt A Highway" - we begin with breakfast at Floyd's Blue Ridge Restaurant at 0800, then gather at Simmon's Store on Rt. 8 for the cleanup, with a brunch/lunch afterward.  See you all there I hope. :)
